Fridayfilm // week 3
A story about a family who can survive anything.
«You know what kind of plan never fails? No plan. No plan at all. You know why? Because life cannot be planned.» The mother in the Kim family has low expectations of life. But anything can happen on film!
Friday film: Parasite
I this week's Friday film we enter into a damp and depressing apartment in the basement, where a family of four live their lives. Except their sense of community and love for each other, they have very little. They steal Internett access from the neighbors and earn enough for food from folding pizza-boxes for a local restaurant. The view from their basement windows are mostly drunk people urinating.
A visit from a friend offers a golden opportunity for the son of the house, and he grabs it with both hands. It is a job as a tutor for a child in a suburban villa in a rich neighborhood. The job may ensure salary, food and a glimpse into "the good life" for the boy from the basement.
Parasite avoids clichés and defies genres. It is suggestive, provoking, fun and absurd. The film has won countless awards, including four Oscars and the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival.
Watch it here.
