Fridayfilm // week 45
When did you last see your father?
The relationship between fathers and their sons can be close and communicative, cold and impersonal or challenging and complicated. In this week's Friday film the relationship is in the latter category. What constitutes a good father? And how can a grown man accept a difficult childhood and move on?
Friday film: Tilbake til Yorkshire
Author and poet Blake Morrison grows up with a father who is critical of him, his life and his career choice. And he tells him frequently. But in between those harsh messsages, they have lighter moments where the father teaches the son life skills for later use. We meet Blake on his father's death bed, and in the process of coming to terms with his past.
Tilbake til Yorkshire (When did you last see your father?) is based on the candid memoirs of author Philip Blake Morrison, and concerns the complicated relationship between father and son. Oscar-winner Jim Broadbent and Colin Firth plays father and son in this moving drama.
